On 15 April, Joint Resolution 1/2026 of the National Administration of Food, Drugs and Medical Technology (ANMAT) and the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries was published in the Official Gazette. The Resolution adopts GMC Resolution No. 28/24, which amends GMC Resolution No. 02/12, the Mercosur Technical Regulation on the positive list of monomers, other starting substances and polymers authorised for the manufacture of plastic packaging and equipment intended to come into contact with food.
This Mercosur amendment introduces the following substances:
Tetramethyl bisphenol F diglycidyl ether (TMBPF‑DGE): a reaction product of tetramethyl bis(4‑hydroxyphenyl)methane with epichlorohydrin. Its use is authorised exclusively for beverage cans, with specific migration limits established.
Polyamide‑imide 2 (PAI‑2): poly‑N‑(4,4′‑diphenylmethane trimellitamide imide), produced by the reaction of 4,4′‑diaminodiphenylmethane with benzoyl‑3,4‑dicarboxylic anhydride. This substance is used as a coating in cookware designed to withstand high temperatures.
