The Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Health has launched a public consultation on its draft Food Sanitary Regulation, aimed at setting comprehensive standards for food products, including food supplements.
Key proposals include mandatory nutrient concentration declarations (sodium, fats, sugars) categorised as high, medium, or low, though without specifying front-of-pack labelling requirements. The draft applies the latest Codex Alimentarius standards on additives, contaminants, and allergen declarations. The regulation seeks to make all Dominican Standards (NORDOM) mandatory, ensure food contact materials comply with international benchmarks, and introduce specific rules for food supplements, which currently lack a dedicated regulatory framework. Sanitary registrations will continue to be managed by DIGEMAPS.
The consultation is currently open for stakeholder input.
