Mercosur countries have reached a technical agreement to submit joint notifications to the World Trade Organization (WTO) regarding both draft resolutions and final texts from the Working Group No.8 on Agricultural Matters. This step strengthens regulatory transparency by allowing international public consultation before adoption. If approved by Mercosur's Common Market Group (GMC), the resolution will take immediate effect.
Led by Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), through its Secretariat for Trade and International Relations, the initiative means Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay will now coordinate notifications on future regulations. This coordinated approach improves predictability, enables external technical input and supports harmonisation, helping reduce duplication and accelerate implementation.
The measure covers animal health, plant health, and viticulture — key areas for market access and competitiveness. Issuing a single notification per regulation will create a clear channel for international feedback, aligning Mercosur with best global practices.
