On 20 January, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) published the Draft Dietary Supplements Regulation 2025 for public comment. The proposed regulation defines dietary supplements along with their intended use, proscribes their form and content, and contains provisions regarding the labelling requirements. The proposed regulation will govern the production, import, export, advertisement, sale, distribution, and use of dietary supplements in Nigeria.
Notably, the regulation prohibits medicinal claims, restricts supplements for infants under 12 months unless there is significant scientific evidence establishing their safety, and limits the vitamin levels to non-therapeutic doses.
