In response to growing concerns over food safety, the Agriculture Regulatory Authority has voiced its support for a new proposal by Russia's public chamber aimed at cracking down on food falsification. The proposal seeks to expand liability, also targeting the substances commonly used to falsify foods, such as soybeans, palm oil, vegetable fats, and spreads.
This proposal comes against the backdrop of data suggesting that falsified dairy products accounted for 13% of Russia's total dairy market in 2024.
Currently, offenders face administrative fines of up to $3,000 for food falsification. The proposed changes aim impose harsher penalties on those involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit food products.
