Published on 21 February, Administrative Order 344/2025 establishes an optimised procedure for the assessment of petitions in the food area through recognising supporting documentation issued by an Equivalent Foreign Regulatory Authority. Through recognising decisions from international regulatory bodies, the regulation creates a more streamlined assessment procedure.
This special procedure is only applicable to the assessment of additives (except flavourings from regional botanical species), processing aids, enzymes used as processing aids, new substances/technologies for food contact materials and functional or health claims of new foods and new ingredients.
The list of Equivalent Foreign Regulatory Authority includes: the USFDA, EFSA (European Food Safety Authority), FSANZ (Food Standards Australia New Zealand), Germany's BfR (Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung), and the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives.
