The 55th Session of the Codex Committee on Food Additives (CCFA) concluded in Seoul with the adoption of the report and an acknowledgement of the spirit of compromise.
CCFA55 agreed on texts relating to a variety of topics, including new and revised full specifications for the identity and purity of food additives and the endorsement and/or revision of maximum levels for food additives and processing aids in Codex standards. The Committee also agreed on the alignment of provisions of 18 commodity standards and on revisions to the relevant provisions of the General Standard for Food Additives (GSFA). Participants agreed to carry out further alignment work and to establish an electronic working group.
Proposals for the revision of the Class names and international numbering system for food additives (CXG 36-1989) will be forwarded to the 48th session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission for adoption, together with additions and changes to the priority list of substances proposed for evaluation by the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA).
