Chile’s Ministry of Health launched a public consultation on a proposed regulatory framework for novel foods and ingredients, marking a significant step forward in the country’s food policy landscape. If adopted, this would be Chile’s first formal regulation for this category and would also extend to the approval of new substances intended for use in any food category, including food supplements.
The proposal foresees safety requirements, evaluation process, submission requirements, confidentiality safeguards, scope, limitations and timeline.
Consultation is open until 6 September 2025.
