Dr Nikolaus Kriz has been nominated by the European Food Safety Authority’s Management Board to serve as Executive Director for a five-year term starting September 2025. Dr. Kriz joined EFSA in 2017 and currently heads the organisation's Risk Assessment Services (ENABLE) Department. Prior to joining EFSA, Dr. Kriz was engaged in veterinary and public health risk assessment at the European Medicines Agency.
The outgoing Executive Director, Dr Bernhard Url, concluded his second five-year term on 31 May 2024. Since June 2024, he assumed the role of Acting Executive Director, ensuring continuity in the EFSA management while the recruitment process for his successor continued to move forward.
As part of the final selection procedure, Dr Kriz is scheduled to present a statement and take questions from members of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Climate and Food Safety (ENVI) during a session planned for 14 July 2025.
