French authorities have signed the Order adopting the updated Nutri-Score algorithm. This move comes after the new algorithm was revised in 2023 by the Nutri-Score Scientific Committee, and aims to more accurately reflect scientific knowledge and official dietary recommendations for food and beverages.

Whereas Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, and Luxembourg have already adopted the updated algorithm, France had delayed formal adoption until now. Key changes under the revised system include improved ratings for oils lower in saturated fat, such as olive oil and rapeseed oil, higher scores for omega-3 rich fatty fish, stricter rating for salty and sugary foods, and an exclusive A-rating for water, with downgraded scores for drinks with sweeteners.

Companies have two years as of 14 March 2025 to transition and apply the updated Nutri-Score on product packaging.
