The National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property from Peru has opened a proposal for public consultation to implement the labeling of packaged foods that incorporate genetically modified components, which are available to consumers at the final points of sale in the national territory, whether domestic or imported. Labelling will be carried out if the percentage of genetically modified components or ingredients in the packaged food exceeds the tolerance threshold of 3%.
