On 10 June 2026, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Qatar has introduced a Food Establishments Guide for Food Recall Requirements, establishing a comprehensive national framework to standardise and strengthen procedures for recalling unsafe or non-compliant food products. This initiative aims to enhance consumer protection and reduce food-related risks, aligning with international food safety best practices.

The guide clearly outlines the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders across the food chain, including importers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. It introduces structured mechanisms for traceability, product recovery, communication, and incident management, supporting faster response times and more efficient handling of food safety issues.

It also highlights the need for food establishments to implement robust recall and recovery systems, maintain effective traceability, and conduct regular testing and verification exercises to ensure preparedness and compliance with global standards.

The launch was announced during World Food Safety Day 2026, where MoPH reinforced its commitment to promoting a preventive food safety culture and strengthening collaboration with both public and private stakeholders.
