The ban is due to a Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) virus outbreak.
On 7 January 2025, the SFDA notified the WTO on behalf of Saudi Arabia of the temporary ban on the importation of poultry meat, eggs, and egg products from Calvados, France.
The temporary ban is pursuant to the “Notice of Administration Order of Saudi Food and Drug Authority Ref. No. 30604” of 3 January 2025. The ban is due to a Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) virus outbreak in Calvados. The ban applies to all poultry meat, eggs, and their products from Calvaos, with the exception of processed poultry meat and egg products exposed to either heat or other appropriate treatments that ensure the deactivation of the HPAI virus.
