The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has launched a public consultation on a new draft African Standard for chocolate and chocolate products. The proposed standard, CD-ARS 1816:2025 - Chocolate and Chocolate Products - Specification (1st Edition), sets out detailed requirements for the composition, sampling, and testing of chocolate-based products intended for human consumption.
This draft applies specifically to cocoa-containing products in bulk formats, such as blocks, slabs, or bars weighing more than 2 kilograms, as well as products in liquid, paste, powder, granular, or other bulk forms packaged in containers exceeding 2 kilograms.
Stakeholders are invited to submit their comments by 1 July 2025.
