The UAE Cabinet has approved the National Healthy Nutrition Strategy 2031, setting out a comprehensive policy framework to promote healthier diets and strengthen preventive nutrition measures across the country. The Strategy establishes strategic priorities aimed at shifting consumption towards healthier food alternatives, increasing public awareness of appropriate dietary patterns, reinforcing prevention‑based approaches to nutrition‑related non‑communicable diseases, and enhancing institutional capacity to support healthy nutrition.
The Strategy comprises 16 initiatives, including:
A ban on partially hydrogenated oils in foods, effectively eliminating industrial trans fats from the food supply
Tightening of rules governing the promotion and advertising of unhealthy foods and beverages, particularly marketing practices that influence consumer choices
The development of a national digital healthy nutrition guide to support dietary decision‑making
Through these measures, the Strategy aims to ensure equitable access to healthy and sustainable food systems, improve nutrition outcomes across all stages of life, and address the rising burden of diet‑related diseases.
