The President of Uzbekistan has signed a decree to stimulate entrepreneurship and enhance the country's trade and industrial policies.
Under the new decree, the mandatory application of technical regulations and standards for food products has been suspended. Food quality and safety will be overseen by the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health, with compliance based on mandatory sanitary rules and norms aligned with the Codex Alimentarius.
As an additional measure to support domestic producers of confectionery and soft drins, the government aims to abolish the excise tax on sugar and remove import restrictions on dry milk.
