Starting 1 March 2025, Uzbekistan will require mandatory laboratory testing of palm oil and products containing palm oil and trans fats. This requirement comes in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 34 of 30 January 2025.
Additional controls will also be introduced on the use of palm oil in domestic foods. Regulatory authorities will conduct inspections targetting market operators engaged in the production, transportation, storage, and sale of food products.
Palm oil is commonly found in products such as icecream, confectionery, and butter. It contains up to 45% palmitic acid, which may contribute to heart disease when consumed in large quantities.
